Agricultural economics is the application of economic principles to the operations of the agricultural industry. Like the pure economics, it is concerned with resource allocation in the agricultural industry. The study of agricultural economics has enabled us to know what to do, not only to ensure increased agricultural production, but, also how to produce profitably, productively and efficiently. It also teaches how to ensure the agricultural products get to the final consumers in the place and form they want it at affordable prices. Fundamentals of Agricultural Economics has been written for B.Sc. (Agriculture), M.Sc. (Agriculture) and M.A. (Economics) of all Indian universities. The book is primarily intended to provide a clear and full understanding of the subject of Agricultural Economics. The book is also useful for research scholars, teachers, bankers, rural development workers and other agencies related with Indian agriculture. Dr. Nasir Husain, presently working as Assistant Professor/ Junior Scientist (Agricultural Economics) in Sher-E-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences & Technology of Kashmir, J.&K. He did his M.Sc. in 1996 and Ph.D. in 2001 in Agricultural Economics, from Chandra Shekhar Azad University of Agriculture & Technology, Kanpur. He started his career in 2000 as a Senior Research Fellow (Agricultural economics) in GBPA&T, Pantnagar, U.S. Nagar (UK). He worked as Senior Research Fellow/ Post Doctoral Fellow in the field of Agricultural Economics from 2000-2007 in different National and International projects in GBPA&T, Pantnagar, U.S. Nagar (UK). He also worked as Referee in different journals. He worked as Expert Member of Selection Committees for RA/SRF in Faculty of Fisheries, SKUAST-K. Many times he appointed as External Examiner in GBPA&T, Pantnagar, U.S. Nagar (UK). He has published more than 30 publications in national and international reputed journals/magazines. He has 18 years of experience in teaching, research and extension activities in the field of Agricultural Economics/ Fisheries Economics/ Forest Economics.
